Charosets: The Mortar
This is a great recipe from Linda Charyk of Toronto for beginner Charoset makers. She says, “While you can find many charoset recipes with all numbers of different ingredients including raisins, pecans and potato starch, I like mine simple so that the taste of the apples, honey and almonds can shine.”
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups peeled and shredded apples (can be grated or diced)
- 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
- 2-3 Tbsp. honey
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. kosher red wine or grape juice
- 1″ piece grated fresh ginger (optional)
Directions
Mix all of the ingredients together in a medium mixing bowl. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Makes two cups.
